Hatto

The Exile

A peculiar looking balloon-like Monster that drifts lazily through the tranquil Ander-Tinaris mountains. Hatto once struck terror into the heart of Kings, and now remains a distant presence in somber contemplation.

The Power

While the rest of the world has worked hard to forget the pains of War, Hatto has no such privilege. Almost every element of Hatto’s body commands devastating, destructive forces the likes of which haven’t been seen since The Last War. Their eye is capable of lancing mountains in half, the gem-like orbs that dot their body are highly explosive, and even Hatto’s mind is wired for war, able to rapidly analyze a battlefield and go where they can cause the most damage.

Each of the red tendrils under Hatto’s body represents a King that fell in battle with the Monster. The sound of them tangling and scraping together produces a death-rattle that echoes through the mountain ranges of Hatto’s self-imposed exile.

People

To the people of the Ander-Tinaris mountains, even seeing Hatto is considered a powerful omen, though not necessarily a dark one. The Monster has spent the last thousand years in a quiet exile from the world, and has only recently been sighted moving closer to populated areas. Most are unaware of Hatto’s history as a warrior, and those that are tend to look upon the Monster with a sympathetic—but distanced—eye. None outright fear Hatto, but their strange visage and history make many uncomfortable around them.

In spite of this, Hatto is a symbol for many artists, calling to mind the burden of the past or the tragedy of war. In recent years, a small gathering of these artists have met in a hidden valley somewhere in the mountains to engage in a sort of elaborate roleplay dedicated to “The Exile,” their name for Hatto.

Notable History

In all one thousand years of their exile, Hatto has only ever broken it once. As Tinaris-Mal experienced an unusually intense ghost-storm, Hatto’s form appeared atop the peak overshadowing the city, and there they hung like a moon, singing a soulful ballad into the dark before vanishing into the valley.

Epic Destiny

A Monster whose only powers are to bring terror and violence to bear in a world free of war opens many questions for the nature of their destiny—if their path is one of forgiveness, was it always so? Or can a destiny change, perhaps along with the world itself?

Wounds

  1. Hatto deflates, their segmented body wrinkling and failing as they drift on the wind.
  2. The halo around Hatto’s horn cracks and rains shards of golden metal as it moves.
  3. Hatto’s orbs explode at random, bursting in a variety of terrible ways.
  4. Hatto’s eye beam is uncontrollable, slicing the sky and the tops of mountains.
  5. Thick globs of False Gold pour from under Hatto, taking the form of the dead kings they slew.
  6. Hatto’s body changes from a soft, undulating pale flesh to a hard, stone-like, jagged bone.
