Gaa’domi

Restless Islands

A colossal semi-aquatic sloth with a flexible, slender body and smooth, slimy skin on its belly, knees, and elbows. Tens of thousands of years ago, it laid down off the coast of Ald-Amura, half submerged and stretched out on its side with one leg up for a nap. Its dense fur is now overgrown with forests, bog, and farmland.

In the ocean at night, a landmass-sized sloth blows bubbles as a tiny boat sails close to its face. The Monster's back is covered in biolumnesent mushrooms and flowers that glow with an overwhelming yellow and white. Hints of a city of village can be seen between the flora

The Power

Below the water, Gaa’domi’s face looks peaceful with a sharp tooth sticking out from its grin. It exudes healing magic through a slime on its skin, which feeds the plants growing in its fur, giving them healing properties. Residents here have exceptionally long lives and some collect slime from the Peak that flows during rain.

People

Some residents of Restless Islands realize Gaa’domi is a living thing and cite the rumblings and shifting as evidence. Skeptical residents see this as more of a religious belief. Yet, holidays and traditions persist that reflect days of old when the creation myth was not a myth but history. The idea that the island is a living creature is popular with children and their clothing has sloth-like features.

Notable History

Recently a development company doing mineral exploration almost pierced the surface. The pain caused Gaa’domi to make a large shift, resulting in mass destruction on the north end and a ring of tidal waves outwards.

Epic Destiny

Gaa’domi is almost out of its adolescent years, and in a few millennia it will wake up and head out to seek a mate. It will crawl, slowly swim, and nap its way to the Southern Void Seas. There it will raise its young, who will follow its parents until it itself becomes an adolescent. Then, it will return to land to gorge itself on food before returning to the sea for a nap.

Wounds

  1. It shifts in discomfort, violently shaking trees, buildings, and the “ground” people walk upon.
  2. As its mood drops, its healing magic stops, and living things accustomed to it go into withdrawal. Plants wilt, animals become weak, and people become depressed and irritable.
  3. Hunger pangs emanate in a low rumble from its belly lasting weeks at a time. Wildlife becomes erratic and unpredictable. People become sleep-deprived.
  4. It starts to snore. This causes extended turbulence in the waters surrounding the entire northern side of the island. The sound can also be disturbing to those not used to it.
  5. Excessive rains result in large amounts of slime flooding the land below and drying into a thick crust after a few days of sunlight.
  6. It wakes up and lets out a great yawn and a burp. Explosive bubbles full of festering gases rise creating small tidal waves as they burst. They carry the stench of its breath in fog that lasts most of the day and makes it near impossible to breathe outdoors.
