Arashi

The Stormbringer

A pale dragon with a mess of long, shaggy white hair framing a single blue crystal horn. Its long tail ends in a colossus blue crystal that buzzes with ozone and pulses with the power of the storm. She flies gracefully around the Burning Seas, an epic storm following closely behind.

The Power

A naturalist style sketch image depicting a white and light-blue dragon. The dragon's tail is tipped with a large crystaline shard that connects to the horns on the dragon's head by veins of blue crystal running through the dragon's body.

Arashi’s name implies a power over storms, but it’s more accurate to say Arashi is as much a part of the storm as the wind and rain. She rides at the head of a great thunderstorm, with an imposing cloud wall perpetually at her tail. Her size changes in relation with the severity of the storm she heralds, and her body is often caged with lightning by which observant people can predict the coming storm. The great horn and tail crystals seem to attract lightning, which she can control to some degree.

People

While territorial, Arashi’s territory stretches across most of the Burning Seas, so her movement appears migratory for anyone living within. This makes meetings between her and the Aldura-Umal rare, but always a cause for celebration, when either sees the other cresting the horizon. Arashi and the Aldura-Umal play a sort of game, where each competes to see who can celebrate the most at the sight of their old friend’s return—Arashi thrashing this way and that to create elaborate lightning displays in the clouds, and the Aldura-Umal performing splendorous stunts and death-defying feats of bravery from aback their steam-rays.

Notable History

Folklore and oral histories suggest that Arashi was once feared and avoided by any who saw her storm approaching. It’s not hard to see why—the lash of thunder and bright flashes of lightning, the cloud wall, and Arashi herself still unsettle those unused to her presence. There are several songs from the region said to be millennia old that speak of Arashi’s loneliness during this time. Seeing her dance in the clouds upon seeing an Aldura-Umal caravan, one’s heart cannot help but skip, just a little, imagining such a beautiful being wandering the sands alone for so long.

Epic Destiny

Arashi’s destiny is linked to an ancient tale about the Burning Seas once being a verdant paradise, a homeland for all animals and plantlife, and the origin of Humanity. Her storm briefly restores the regions she flies over to this former glory, leaving a rich green garden in her wake, full of plants and animals rarely—or never—seen before. This lasted about an hour, but we know from logs kept by the Aldura-Umal that this duration has more than doubled in the last ten years alone.

Wounds

  1. Arashi’s horn glows a faint yellow and lightning rolls off of it like a waterfall.
  2. The lightning around Arashi’s body closes tight, burning her skin and driving her wild with pain.
  3. The rain falls hard enough to break skin and crack glass.
  4. Arashi’s eyes leak False Gold, and the ground under her fuses into green sand-glass wherever she walks.
  5. Arashi’s tail cracks and leaks a thin green fluid, poisoning the land and spreading a toxic miasma wherever she flies.
  6. Arashi’s flight leaves a thick, jagged crack in the sky wherever she goes.
